Zombie

Zombie by Cranberries

Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence,
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou...

Another mother's breakin',
Heart is taking over.
When the violence causes silence,
We must be mistaken.

It's the same old theme since 1916.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a...

夜的诗人:“ On a Easter Sunday many years ago in Ireland, in a bid towards a independent state from the United Kingdom, a armed conflict broke out between the English and the Irish. On a day where many other people celebrated new found hope and new meaning to living, Ireland will always remember it as the day they will dread. Today, the original focus of the civil strife has been lost and now the Protestants are shooting the Catholics and the Catholics are bombing the Protestants. School children cannot go to school without army escort, religious processions cannot be completed without some sort of blood shed in between. I didn't make this all up, it is all in the news. Just that they aren't newsworthy anymore, since it has been ongoing all these while.

Maybe for that reason, Irish bands have been very outstanding in terms of their music and their lyrics. For example, U2, Cranberries, The Corrs .. etc. eh ... Westlife doesn't count, they are a boy band. I think rock bands give the impression they are anarchist, trouble makers and anti-establishment .. blah blah blah. But then I think they are the sharpest critics of the so called civilized 'establishments' that can use their powers to proclaim war on one another. Such establishments give more troubles than anything they are created to do.

Can peace only be obtained by starting more violence?

I like this song at first for its rhythm and melody. But it was so melancholic, and the MTV feels so freakish. After all, this is the 'nab*h' song many will remember it for. I began liking this song again when I was in the army, when I looked closer at it's lyrics and understood what it is about. I thought of this song immediately when I heard of the Bali bombing.

I will gladly trade my health for world peace.”
