Figure why you should not ask a blind how an elephant looks like?
Answer: Because you cannot expect the blind to give you a satisfactory answer.
Therefore, you actually can save yourself some trouble and exasperation by not asking in the first place. The problem with a lack lustre academic record, is that people treat you like a blind, and then still ask you how an elephant looks like.
To be the fair, the above is not an attack on our visually disadvantaged friends. It is just to draw parallels with the parable, I am sure if any blind people is asked this question, they would politely apologize and say that they have not seen an elephant before. My point is, if you cannot trust that someone can give you a satisfactory answer, then don't ask. It is very rude to redirect your question to another person in my face after hearing my answer. It is not simply a case of gathering more opinions loh. If it is academic, there usually is a correct or wrong, or a quantified solution to it. When someone asks and I have an answer, I would of course gladly share my knowledge. On the other hand when I don't or when I am unsure, I would be frank and kind enough not to 'smoke' you loh. Of course there are times I would be wrong too, then whoever asked should politely engage me in a meaningful discussion to correct my wrong. By the way, the answer most agreed upon may not be the correct and best answer.
Ever wonder why people are satisfied and end their tirade of queries at Count Dooku and the gang of gods but move on after me? That's right, I'm blind, so stop asking me how the elephant looks like. Go ask someone with proper eyesight.
